My first day 'Splorin' Germany!

Hunger overtook my need for sleep! I headed downstairs to see if I could grab a quick bite and they told me there were sandwhich type shops located in the train station about 2 blocks away - so I headed to the train station. I found a McDonalds and Burger King - thank goodness, along with several German sandwhich and bakery shops. They looked great but I went for the safe food because I wasn't sure if my stomach could handle all the rich deli meats. Anyhow, I decided on Burger King and one big cream cheese pastry - everyone knows that the Germans have great pastries and I can now attest that they do! I scarffed down my food and headed back to the hotel for my long awaited nap.

After waking up from my 2 hour nap, I found out there was an Arts fest taking place on the river Main. As it turned out, the river was only about 2 blocks from my hotel, so I head out. Wow...I think the entire city of Frankfurt was there. People were on both sides of the river as far as you could see and all over the bridges. Anyhow, it was interesting because everything is so different; money (it's Euros here and kind of expensive at $1.47 to our $1.oo), language, music, and their culture. I walked around for a few hours and then decided I was 'done!' for the day. I went back to the hotel and in bed by 9:30 pm.

Sleeping turned out to be more difficult than I expected. Around 11 pm I about jumped out of my skin when the fireworks started going off near the hotel celebrating the end of the Arts fest. I made it through that and fell right back to sleep only to be woken up by the TV turning itself on at 1 am. That did me in! I was not able to fall back to sleep the rest of the night. In addition to this, Ed was in the middle of FINALLY closing the big 'deal'. This is what we've been waiting on for the last two years. This was something I wanted to celebrate with him. Unfortunately, 'The End' turned out not to be the big celebration we had hoped for. AT&T finally signed the deal at 1:55 am pst and Oracle did not receive it by 2:00 am pst which means the deal might not book in Q1...very bad for Oracle and a disappointment for Ed. As of today, he still doesn't know which quarter the deal will book in but hey, the deal is DONE! As my dad would say ' he turned the elephant'! Regardless of when the deal books, we can now begin planning our lives together and we're both very excited about that.

Valerie gets in tomorrow from San Diego, and it will be nice to have someone to hang out with...someone who speaks English. We'll go splorin together. We want to see the castles.

My Trip to Germany

Ok...just wanted to check in and let you know I made it. However, it wasn't the 9.5 hour trip like originally scheduled. They had to load software in the cockpit and then they had to replace a sensor. Because they replaced the sensor, they had to let engine run to check everything out and make sure it was working ok. Let me say I was not thrilled about sitting on the plane an extra 2 hours BUT I did appreciate the safe flight! ;)

Also, the taxis are much nicer here than at home...you're not sitting on the seat springs here because the taxis are Mercedes Benz. Great ride! Would have been better if my taxi driver believed in a little air conditioning. I think he was Indian and perhaps they don't need the same amount of cool air as us Americans! ;)

I finally made it to my lovely hotel room that Ed got for me. It's also a little different from home. I've attached a few pictures so you can see what I mean. 1. The beds are pretty low to the floor and 2. I had to practice to learn how to flush the toilet. If you'll look closely...it's the large silver plate on the wall. That's what you push here to make that baby work. And believe me, after 11 hours on the plane..I needed it to work! ;) Maybe TMI but hey, I'm really tired and have an excuse!

Sorry if this sounds a little crazy. It's actually Sunday 4:16 am your time and Sunday 11:15 am here and I'm a little tired since I wasn't able to sleep on the flight. That was unusual for me as I can usually always sleep on the plane. Anyhow, I'm going to take a little nap...an hour or so, and then shower and start 'splorin' as Ed would say!!!! Right honey! Ed has me right downtown and there's plenty to walk around and see. Valerie gets in tomorrow morning and I hope to have a day long tour booked for us. I'll work on that later today..read about it while I devour my lunch!

OK my Texas family...going to go lay down before I fall down.

Love you and more to come!
