SURPRISE!

Wow! What a weekend....who could have known?!?!

Saturday was Ed's 54th birthday and I had this big special surprise planned for him....in fact, I've had it planned for the last two months. I was flying his daughter, Katie, in from Los Angeles; his son, Will, was going to pick her up from the airport and meet us at Ed's house (we had to stay at his house Saturday because the big 'NFL Draft' was on TV and this is one of Ed's FAVORITE things to watch - in fact, one of his top rated annual events!) Anyhow, once the kids got there, we were heading off to lunch and then on to the Dallas Museum of Art to see Tutankhamun (King Tut) "Golden Ages of Pharaohs' exhibit.

Things went exactly as planned and we had a great time. Ed was very very surprised and could hardly say anything for the first hour or so as he just tried to digest all of this. I told him I had a special surprise for him but I think he thought it was going to be surprise party. No way, I wouldn't do that to him!
Anyhow, the evening ended with us going to the top of Reunion Tower, to the new restaurant 'Five Sixty'. We had a glass of wine as we rotated around the city. Finally, we went back to Ed's house and I headed home to have nice dinner with my family while Ed spent some 1:1 time with his family.

The next morning, Sunday, Ed took Katie to the airport and then came over so we could go to church together. He came in and laid down with me for a little while and told me about his time with the kids and how thankful he was for his wonderful birthday present. THEN....he told me that since I had a big surprise for him -- he had a big surprise for me! So he then pulled out this square jewelry box...'NO, this couldn't be the ring...it's not supposed to be ready until sometime in May?! Maybe it's the necklace that I told him I wanted. This can't be THE RING!' Guess what...it was...THE RING! I was so excited -- I couldn't believe it. Ed opened the box and asked me if I would spend the rest of my life with him and course, I started to cry! And you know my answer was 'YES!!!'.
You see, Ed picked up the ring from the jeweler on Friday and was going to surprise me and propose on his birthday. I had been asking him what he really wanted for his birthday and he would always say 'YOU!' (meaning me). As it turned out, he had this BIG surprise for me and I had this BIG surprise for him this weekend.
Below are some CAD drawings that were used to design and create our ring. The last picture is the real thing. Our ring was designed from a combination of several other rings that we admired. I really wanted something that had an antique look and feel and the three-diamonds were special to me because both my mom and my moms' mom each had a three-diamond ring.
So we are now 'officially' engaged and are very excited about it! We'll start looking for a date shortly but it assume it will be sometime this summer. Not sure what the wedding will look like but probably something very small and intimate.
This weekend will be hard to beat. We can't imagine anything that would or could top this one. This was one of kind and full of so many wonderful surprises! Ed got a big surprise and so did I!!!!
